Participate in our Survey: Seeking ideas on the future of the Latvian Friendly Society Ltd (LFS)
The LFS was established in 1973 and, for many years, operated a retirement village and aged care facility in Melbourne. In 2025, ownership and management of the village and facility transferred to Uniting AgeWell.
At our Annual General Meeting in early 2026, members agreed on a new mission for LFS:
The mission of Latvian Friendly Society Limited (“LFS”) is to support the wellbeing of older persons and others in need of Latvian heritage in Australia, and to preserve, celebrate and enhance Latvian culture, language, education and traditions, and foster connections across generations within the wider Latvian community in Australia.
We are now looking to the wider Latvian community for ideas on how LFS can bring this mission to life. We are especially keen to understand where there are gaps or emerging needs, and we want to complement (not duplicate) the great work already being done by other Latvian organisations.
We really value your thoughts on the questions below, and thank you for taking the time to share your ideas. The LFS Board will consider every response.
